UL Certificate FR Fabric
Safe-Guard provides UL Recognized FR fabric constructions for industrial protective clothing under UL File MH68561. Our current recognition covers Cotton/Nylon FR fabric and cotton-based FR fabric constructions evaluated in accordance with NFPA 2112:2023.
For buyers sourcing UL FR fabric for protective workwear, the recognition provides a traceable third-party reference for specific Safe-Guard fabric constructions.
Current UL Recognized FR Fabric Constructions
Safe-Guard currently has three flame-resistant outer shell fabric constructions included under UL File MH68561.
| Model | Fabric Type | Nominal Weight | Weave | Finish |

What Does UL Recognition Mean for FR Fabric?
UL recognition applies to the specific fabric constructions included in the official UL record.
For FR fabric buyers, this provides an independent reference showing that representative samples of the recognized constructions have been evaluated according to the applicable UL component requirements and the standard stated in the certification documentation.
The recognized fabrics are intended to be used as components in flame-resistant protective clothing. The certification status of a finished garment depends on the complete garment construction, components and applicable certification requirements.
Therefore, using a UL Recognized fabric does not automatically make every finished garment UL certified.
For sourcing projects, buyers should confirm:
- the exact fabric construction;
- required garment standard;
- target hazard and end use;
- fabric weight and performance requirements;
- whether recognition of the fabric itself or certification of the finished garment is required.
Cotton/Nylon FR Fabrics for Protective Workwear
Cotton/Nylon FR fabric combines the comfort characteristics of cotton with the additional mechanical durability provided by nylon, making this fabric platform suitable for demanding industrial workwear.
Cotton/Nylon FR fabrics are commonly considered for applications including:
- Oil and gas workwear
- Electrical utility clothing
- Petrochemical protective garments
- Industrial maintenance uniforms
- FR shirts, trousers and coveralls
- Multi-purpose protective workwear
In the North American FR workwear market, 88/12 Cotton/Nylon FR fabric is a well-established fabric category, particularly where buyers require a balance of comfort, wear resistance and protective performance. However, the term “88/12” describes the fiber blend only; actual FR performance depends on the complete fabric construction, FR finishing process and verified test performance.

Additional FR Fabric Constructions Can Be Developed
The three constructions listed above represent Safe-Guard’s current UL Recognized FR fabric portfolio. They do not represent the full range of FR fabrics that Safe-Guard can manufacture.
We also develop flame-resistant fabrics according to different requirements for:
- Composition
- Fabric weight
- Weave and construction
- Color
- Hand feel
- Mechanical durability
- Anti-static requirements
- Arc flash protection
- Flash fire protection
- End-use market and garment type
For example, additional Cotton/Nylon FR fabrics, including conventional 88/12 FR fabric constructions, can be developed according to project requirements.
Where UL recognition is required for a new or modified construction, the fabric should be evaluated separately through the applicable certification process before being represented as part of the recognized scope.
Looking for a Different UL FR Fabric?
If one of our existing recognized constructions does not match your project, send us your target:
Composition + GSM + Garment Use + Required Standard + Order Requirement
Our technical and production teams can review whether an existing fabric is suitable or whether a new fabric construction should be developed.
Choosing the Right FR Fabric for Your Project
UL recognition is one consideration when selecting protective fabric, but it should not be the only one.
The appropriate FR fabric also depends on:
| Requirement | What to Confirm |
|---|---|
| End Use | Oil & gas, electrical utility, industrial workwear, etc. |
| Garment Type | Shirt, trousers, jacket, coverall |
| Fabric Platform | Cotton or Cotton/Nylon |
| Weight | Based on protection, climate and garment requirements |
| Hazard | Flash fire, electric arc or multi-hazard |
| Target Standard | Confirm before fabric development |
| Certification | Existing recognition or new certification requirement |
If your specification is already defined, send us the fabric requirements directly. If not, Safe-Guard can help compare suitable constructions based on the final garment application.

Why Source UL FR Fabric from Safe-Guard?
1.Traceable UL Recognition
Current recognized constructions can be referenced through UL File MH68561, allowing buyers to verify the relevant certification information through UL Product iQ.
2.Cotton and Cotton/Nylon FR Fabric Platforms
Safe-Guard manufactures both cotton-based and Cotton/Nylon FR fabrics for different workwear and protective clothing requirements.
3. FR Fabric Development Support
Different projects require different combinations of comfort, durability, fabric weight, mechanical performance and protective performance. Fabric specifications can therefore be discussed around the actual garment application rather than relying on a single standard construction.
4.Testing and Technical Documentation
Depending on the fabric and project requirements, buyers can request available test reports, fabric specifications and technical documentation for evaluation before bulk production.
